Information about Mühlhausen

Wappen Mühlhausen

The first mention of Mühlhausen probably dates back to 708. The mills next to the houses from back then, which gave the location its name, have since disappeared. Of the former castle only ruins remain, excluding the manor which is still preserved. The so-called “Palm’sche Schloss” was built in 1813 by Jonathan Freiherr von Palm on the foundation of the old, torn down manor. During the course of time, the manor was reconstructed several times and is a listed building since 1971. Another sight worth seeing is the Gothic Veitskapelle which was donated to Mühlhausen in 1380. The Middle Age church hall has remained almost unchanged and is decorated on the walls as well as on the ceiling with paintings from the late 14th century. The district Freiberg is a modern residential area in which over half of the population lives in eight high rises. It is characteristic for the whole area as more than 80% of all employees of this area not only live in Mühlhausen but work outside the town. The district of Hofen was the only Catholic place in Württemberg at the beginning of the 19th century and therefore pulled in Catholics from all over Stuttgart. The castle grounds Hofen are from the 12th century and are some of the best preserved grounds in the whole of Stuttgart. But Hofen is worth a visit not only for historians, but also for sports fans as the area is right next to the Max-Eyth-See, Stuttgarts largest lake. It is a water sport and recovery centre and offers various leisure activities for visitors from near and far. The suburbanisation took place on the 1st April 1922. Private links about Mühlhausen.
