Opera of the Year – Multiple Awards

The cultural figurehead of the city of Stuttgart. Half a million people visit the 900 or so events per year. Four times the hall won the title best opera in Germany with a mix of contemporary music and classics. The choir is still front-runner among German language opera. For years the hall has been known and loved as the “Winter Bayreuth” because of its Wagner works, lastly an innovative “ring” of four directors and four different casts created headlines. The Young Opera Stuttgart in the Neue Staatsgalerie also receives plenty of attention. Since 1997 productions which are specially prepared in or with school classes are shown there in order to facilitate access to the opera world.
